How to Protect and Treat Dry Skin through the Winter Months

Treating dry skin throughout the year can be frustrating for those that commonly experience the effects of dry skin. There are many aspects which can be taken to reduce the symptoms such as itching and flaking that seem to be common through the winter months. Here are some of the ways that you can keep your skin dry throughout the cold winter months.

  • At night, use a humidifier to reduce the dryness during the evening. This can help to reduce the skin drying out through the night.
  • In the morning when you wake up create a makeshift steam room with the use of the shower on hot and the door closed to create steam within the room. To make the most of the steam room apply lotion to the skin while it is becoming hydrated.
  • Stop using hot showers. Hot showers have been known to dry the skin, as opposed to warm showers which can help the skin to maintain the moisture.
  • Follow up all showers with moisturizing lotion. The lotion should be oil based as this can help to moisturize the skin, as opposed to a lotion that is water based.
  • Be sure to keep hydrated. One of the first ways to ensure that the skin remains hydrated is to drink lots of water, especially through the winter months.

Use these tips to keep hydrated through the winter months and ensure that you are maintaining the health of your skin.
