Wilma Lopez just returned from skiarea and was filling in her friend Ida Cooper about the miserable time she had with dry and cracked skin out in the cold. Ida told her that she had the exact same skin problem at Livigno, Italy. Another skiier told her about the three things to keep your skin in good condition in nasty winter weather. She definitely expects to use that on her trip to Grächen, Valais, Switzerland in the next few weeks.
Winter is the harshest time on our skin. A huge number of people suffer with itchy, dry, rough and painful skin. Flocking out to the nearest market to grab the most well known healing lotions and creams to help quell the irritation and heal the cracks for moments of relief. However, many folks are overlooking the most needed and inexpensive ways to not only get a major improvement with your dry, chapped and cracked skin, but also help prevent it.
We are made up primarily of water. For some reason, in the winter, we overlook the need we have of drinking enough water. Whereas in summer, when we are sweating and doing yard work, we know we need to drink quite a bit of water to help replace the water as we have lost. In the winter the icy air does much the same to our body. It sucks that moisture right out of us. This then cracks and chaps our skin, leaving it dry and itchy. Making sure that you drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day will help you win the fight over your dry and cracked skin. Try it for the next two weeks and you will undoubtedly see a noticeable improvement in your skin in a couple of days.
On the same topic of the vital importance of moisture, a reliable moisturizing cream is also a good idea. Find one that fits for your skin type so that you aren’t going to end up with oily uncomfortable skin. I recommend a cream more than a lotion in the winter, since a cream is thicker and more protective of the skin. It is also a good idea to spend the time you need to read the label. The cream or lotion that you use in the summer may not even help in the winter. Find one that does not have any type of alcohol in the first few ingredients, as alcohol is a drying agent.
Dress the right way in the cold. You should not just ignore this, consider it carefully. The more exposed skin that you have increases the opportunity that the cold has to suck the moisture. Layer your clothes and let that first layer be clothes that are made out of cotton. Cotton will let you skin breathe, will keep you warm and won’t irritate your skin.
Take these three easy steps, you will not only notice relief from that miserable dry skin, an not only that you will also help prevent your skin from becoming dry. Drinking plenty of water, the right moisturizing cream for you and appropriate clothing and you will have moist, healthy and glowing skin all over you.
