The Four Types of Acne Lesions

There are four types of acne lesions which are found on the skin and on the other parts of the body. These lesions can develop on the skin and lead to painful sores that can last upwards of two weeks. Most often, acne is caused by an excess build up of oil within the skin which can lead to a breakout. Here are the four types of acne lesions and how to identify each of the lesions.

Papules are small pink bumps that can appear on the skin and cause the skin to become sensitive to the touch. Although these are small lesions, they can become increasingly painful and are hard to remove from the skin.

Pustules are what most people commonly refer to as pimples and are small red eruptions that have fluid inside, often white pus, or blood.

Nodules are found deep within the skin and can lead to painful bumps that appear cyst like. These are some of the most painful types of pimples which are common the back and the chest as the oil glands are larger in these areas.

Cysts can cause scarring and are also found deep within the skin. These lesions are filled with pus and can cause severe pain through the process of trying to lodge the pimple.
