People who really want to loose weight should minimize the alcohol intake. It is a high source of calorie i.e. One gram of alcohol requires seven kcal to be metabolized almost competitive to that of fat i.e. 9 kcal per gram. Moreover, it strains liver to metabolize it and a common cause for fatty liver. Alcohol is a nervous stimulator that triggers the brain cells to release craving for fatty food and snacks so it is advised not to take alcohol empty stomach as in cocktails and parties. Still red wine is the most acceptable form of alcohol to be taken with food, infact it decreases arteriosclerosis.
Another scary increase in figures is the increasing diabetes mellitus in youth today, which is identified because of increase intake of beer, and cocktails that trigger insulin. On the contrary, it has been proved through researches that alcohol taken with food reduces the risk of coronary artery disease if taken in controlled amount i.e. 30-45 ml even daily. It is advisable to drink alcohol during, after meals, and not before meals as when stomach is full the absorption of alcohol is slowed.
